Group Training Opportunities

The ACV 401 Bike Challenge team has put together two different group training opportunities. New this year for Montreal-based riders is a series of indoor cycle training sessions at Montreal’s elite training centre, Premiere Performance/P2. Then, when the warmth of summer arrives we will go outdoors for three group training rides in both Montreal and Toronto. These will be terrific opportunities for new and veteran riders to meet, share training tips and experiences, and start building the bonds that are such a special part of the 401 Bike Challenge experience.

Outdoor group training rides (Toronto)
Three rides are being scheduled for May, June, and July. Here are the dates and routes:

Monday May 20 Victoria Day: One-way ride from Prince's Gate at the Exhibition Place to Niagara Falls, 135km. Start time is 10:00 am (please arrive early and be ready to go at 10:00 am). There will be a coffee/lunch break near the halfway point. For those who want to enjoy the scenery and socialize, there will be an early casual dinner at a restaurant near the Niagara Falls Train station. A Go Train will leave the train/bus terminal early evening (a little after 7:00 pm). That specially equipped train will have plenty of bike racks for riders going to/from Niagara Falls. There will also be regular Go buses leaving Niagara Falls, but there are only space for 2 bikes on each bus. Route map: There are some short punchy climbs, but the route is mostly very flat.

July 6 – 8:30 am: Ride to Forks of the Credit Provincial Park (110 kms) Start/Finish - Tim Horton's, corner of Aukland Rd & Dundas St W. just north of the Kipling Subway station.

The ride will start at 8:30 am promptly to avoid the expected summer heat. There will be a coffee/brunch break at the Belfountain General Store at the half-way point. Route map: There is only one notable climb just before reaching Belfountain, but most of the return trip will be downhill.

July 21 – 8:30 am: Ride to Lake Simcoe (120 kms) Start/Finish - Victoria Square, Markham

From Victoria Square Park in Markham to Jackson's Point by Lake Simcoe, 120km. The ride will start at 8:30 am to avoid the summer heat. The route map is here: Lunch/coffee stop will be near Keswick. Victoria Square Park is a popular start/end point for club rides, and there is plenty of parking there, or in the neighbourhood.
